Overview

Survey Studio is an AI-powered survey creation platform designed to help healthcare market research clients quickly move from research briefs to field-ready surveys. By combining Konovo's market research expertise with AI-driven survey generation technology, the platform enables users to create, refine, validate, and export professional surveys through a conversational chat.

This initiative represented more than a new product launch. It required integrating an external AI platform into Konovo's existing ecosystem to create a seamless experience that aligned with internal business processes, operational workflows, and new brand standards. The goal was to deliver a simple self-service offering that reduced survey authoring effort while establishing a foundation for future AI-powered research products.

The Problem

Survey Studio required balancing a simple customer experience against a highly complex technical and operational landscape. The solution needed to connect multiple systems, including the AI survey generation platform, Konovo's administrative tools, authentication systems, and survey programming workflows, while supporting both customer and internal user needs.

Multiple user flows were considered to best validate user needs, business requirements, and engineering constraints.

The solution needed to connect multiple systems while supporting both customer and internal user needs.

The project was delivered on an aggressive timeline and involved coordination across multiple engineering teams, each with different responsibilities, constraints, and development priorities. In addition to integrating an external codebase into an existing platform, the experience required new branding, onboarding flows, account management capabilities, export functionality, usage limits, administrative controls, and internal handoff processes.

Research & Design Process

As Director of Product Design, I led product strategy, user experience design, prototyping, stakeholder alignment, and implementation support across the initiative. Working closely with product, engineering, operations, and external partner teams, I first mapped several proposed end-to-end workflows spanning account creation, onboarding, AI-assisted survey generation, export, submission, administration, and internal operational handoffs.

To accelerate delivery, I leveraged AI-assisted design workflows (Figma Make, Claude), rapid prototyping, and design system components to quickly explore concepts, communicate requirements, and support engineering implementation. I produced detailed user flows, high-fidelity prototypes, interaction patterns, loading states, error handling, and edge-case scenarios that helped align multiple teams around a shared vision while reducing ambiguity during development.

Throughout the design process, client feedback sessions helped uncover additional workflow complexities and informed several iterations of the product vision. I conducted these sessions with the Product Manager on the project, and we were able to identify several problem areas. Some were addressable, such as a disjointed export experience, and others helped gather feedback on what the next iteration of the product would need, including more robust research references to be added into the LLM behind the interface.

Impact

Survey Studio transformed a standalone AI capability into a cohesive customer-facing platform that enables healthcare market researchers to create surveys faster while maintaining the operational controls required by the business. The work was complex and demonstrated how AI could be incorporated into Konovo’s core research workflows. It also demonstrated how AI could be used at every stage of the design process: in ideation, in prototyping, and even in handing off final deliverables. This increased speed at every step along the way.

By aligning customer needs, business requirements, and engineering constraints, the project created the foundation for a new self-service product offering. The result was a production-ready platform experience that streamlined survey creation, accelerated delivery timelines, and positioned Konovo to expand its AI-powered product strategy in the future.

By utilizing the context inputted, Survey Studio proposes a survey of the specified length that is directly editable by the researcher.

Multiple flows needed to be considered for exporting the survey after completion. The survey can be submitted to Konovo’s internal programming team (above) or the survey can be downloaded for use in a different tool.

Setting user expectations was critical when generating the survey for download, particularly where multiple systems were require to synthesize the export.
